At Karoo Stone Sanctuary, our mission is simple: to provide a nurturing environment where animals can roam freely in our sanctuary that we have built, to feel safe, and live a happy life at Karoo Stone. Every corner of the sanctuary is designed with their comfort in mind, and every day is dedicated to their care, wellbeing, and joy. Here, animals aren’t just sheltered they’re truly loved.
Our Sanctuary Story
Situated in the heart of Karoo, Stone is a newly built animal sanctuary created from a deep love and respect for all creatures. What began as a dream to offer some farm animals a safe haven has grown into a peaceful home for them here at Karoo Stone. From gentle sheep and curious cows to quirky alpacas, playful goats, a donkey, and a handful of other farm favourites, each animal has its own story and a chance at a happy life here.

Our sheep haven’t been named just yet, they’re still a little shy and prefer keeping their distance. Unlike the more curious animals who happily come over for attention, the sheep take their time warming up to new company. We’re giving them the space they need, and when they’re ready, we know their personalities (and names!) will reveal themselves naturally..
Eben – the brown ram
Eben is our proud brown ram with a strong presence and a calm confidence that makes him stand out in the herd. He carries himself with a steady, watchful nature, always keeping an eye on everything happening around the sanctuary. He’s the guardian of the group, dignified and dependable, and we couldn’t imagine the sanctuary without him.
Donkey
Gemma – the rescue donkey
Gemma is our sweet rescue donkey who’s had a difficult start in life. She came to us from a farm where she wasn’t properly cared for her hooves had been neglected, and she hadn’t experienced much love or attention. Today, Gemma is thriving in her new home, learning to trust again and enjoying the care and affection she deserves. Gentle, curious, and endlessly patient, she’s a beautiful reminder of why our sanctuary exists: to give animals a second chance at a happy, healthy life.

Dennis – the crazy goat
Dennis is our wild child — the energetic, mischievous goat who keeps us on our toes. He’s full of personality, always plotting his next adventure, whether it’s climbing where he shouldn’t or stealing the spotlight with his hilarious antics. Dennis may be crazy, but he’s also endlessly entertaining and brings a burst of fun to the sanctuary every single day.
Fuzzy – the smaller goat (and a girl!)
Fuzzy is our sweet, petite little goat with the softest coat and the gentlest nature. She may be small, but she’s full of charm and has a way of quietly winning everyone’s heart. While Dennis causes chaos, Fuzzy brings balance — calm, affectionate, and always happy to be close by. She’s the soft whisper to Dennis’s loud laughter.
Alpacas
Cinderella - the brown alpaca
Cinderella is our elegant brown alpaca with a heart as soft as her fleece. She moves with a gentle grace and has a calm, thoughtful nature that makes her a favourite among visitors. Although she enjoys her space, she’s always curious and will quietly wander over to check who’s arrived. With her big eyes and regal stance, she truly lives up to her fairytale name.
Snowy - the white alpaca
Snowy is our bright, snowy-white alpaca with a playful sparkle in her personality. She’s the first to trot over when she sees someone approaching and loves being part of whatever is happening. Friendly, expressive, and always ready for attention, Snowy brings a cheerful energy to the sanctuary and keeps everyone smiling with her quirky charm.

Molly – the brown cow
Molly is our soft-eyed brown cow with the sweetest, calmest nature. She loves slow mornings, quiet grazing, and standing close enough for a gentle scratch behind the ears. With her warm colouring and relaxed personality, Molly brings a peaceful presence to the sanctuary — she’s the steady heartbeat in the fields, always content, always kind.
Daisy – the white cow
Daisy is our bright, beautiful white cow with a friendly nature and a curious streak. She’s usually the first to wander over when someone
Chickens
Kevin Jnr – the rooster
Kevin Jnr is our proud little rooster with a big personality and an even bigger voice. He struts around the sanctuary like he owns the place, keeping a close eye on “his” flock and making sure everyone knows he’s in charge. Whether he’s greeting the morning with his signature crow or showing off his colourful feathers, Kevin Jnr brings life, humour, and a touch of attitude to each new day.
Too many chickens to name
Our chicken family is… extensive. With so many feathery little bodies running around, scratching, exploring, and living their best lives, naming them all became impossible and honestly, part of the fun is trying to tell who’s who each morning!
